Graduation System

The highlight of the event is “batizado e troca de cordas”, which is the graduation ceremony. Students awarded belt and certificate by the ‘mestre’ or master which signifies advancement of the knowledge and skills to the next level.

The belt color system identifies the stage of learning and evolution of the students. In Cordão de Ouro schools, the colour system is divided into two age groups and 5 phases.

What is the suitable age to learn capoeira?

Capoeira is suitable for everyone, from the very young to the very senior ones. Our group class however, accepts students from 4 years of age and above.

Do I need to be fit and flexible to learn capoeira?

Don’t be intimidated by the movements you see among the capoeiristas. Fitness and flexibility are developed over time. You will learn the basics of kicks, defence, and acrobatic movements before introduced to a more challenging movement according to your level. So, worry not!

What do I get from Capoeira workout?

Capoeira provides cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training, which are essential for overall health. When training capoeira, you will use muscle groups that you may never have trained before. So for a first timer, it is normal to expect muscle soreness from the first class, which gets better over time.

What do I wear?

Wear clothing that you feel comfortable moving around and sweating in, basically track pants or yoga pants and t-shirt. Sports shoes are not required, as we train barefoot in our studio.

 

What benefits do I get from learning capoeira?

Capoeira is one of the most robust form of activity. Not only you will be able to learn it as a form of exercise and physical activity, it can be used as a self defence through its attacks and defence movement. Besides that, capoeira has deep roots in cultures. You will practice capoeira alongside to its music, be able to learn to play musical instruments, dance and Brazilian Portuguese language too.
